Filipino Execution in China: Should the Government Interfere?

News of three Filipinos convicted of drug trafficking hit the stands these past days. Despite pleas from our government, China stands firm in its decision to execute the Pinoys via firing squad.

As I listen to more details of this event, I reach the conclusion that the convicted people knew what they were actually doing in exchange for money- very precious commodity to many Filipinos fighting tooth and nail just to earn some.

Then they were caught and are facing the death penalty. Now they call on the government for help. Now my question is this- should the government interfere in this case?

In my opinion the government should interfere in this case because the people involve here are Filipino citizens. The relatives of the victims will question the government if they will not act on this cases and they might rebel against the government and the situation will become worst.

  3. According to the latest news update, the execution was postponed by the Chinese Government. With this event, the government must interfere and act quickly. They are Filipinos and they must be protected by their own government.Whether or not they are guilty, they should not receive a punishment as harsh as this. A lifetime imprisonment is better than death.

In my opinion, the government is responsible for the citizens of the Philippines, there coming in and out of the country. So if anything bad happens to our OFW's, they are in fault. They must find a way to decrease the penalty. Although its the rule of China, its a little harsh. The government should really interfere in this case because the relationship of China and our country is up to this case.

Ma'am in my opinion the government should not interfere in the said case. Because it is stated in the laws of China that drug trafficking is forbidden and it would be a shame to ignore it, instead we should respect it. "Too little, Too late".

One example why we should not interfere was the rape case done by one American named as Daniel Smith, although the USA tried to interfere, they had a second thought. Because it would be a disrespect from our laws and us Filipino's alone.

For now, that they have extended the execution we will just hope that the government will do it's part, but if the Chinese government will decline our request, Accepting it is the best thing to do.

  6. For myself,we cannot interfere with the case, especially the law and supreme court in China, nevertheless it is the responsibility and obligation of the government to help them and their families in any way since they are thought to be guilt for the intent selling of narcotic. Also, we cannot tolerate the crime,of course we do not want other countries to think that we are tolerating the drug trafficking of a fellow Filipino it is also a disrespect for their part and to avoid misunderstanding again when time comes that a Chines man will make something and will be guilty.

  7. In my opinion, the government should interfere in this case because Filipinos are involved here. Yes, we are disrespecting the laws of China but the people involved here are Filipino citizens. The government must act quickly before those Filipinos are executed. They asked help to us and it's a shame if we did not do anything for them.

I'm not saying that we must protect them from their sins but I'm saying that the government must do anything so that these Filipinos will not be executed. A life imprisonment is better than being executed. //crisha santos//

Considering the circumstances, the government should HELP the 3 Filipinos. As what they have said they are victims of circumstances. They carried with them drugs to earn money for their families.
But what the government should do is to help them on the condition that they will volunteer information so that the big fishes or the masterminds in the drug business will be caught.
This is the only way to stop drug trafficking which is victimizing many of our poor people.
Killing them will not help solve the problem. Let them live so that they can tell their stories and pinpoint the real culprits in the drug business.

  9. No.The government should not interfere in this case. I agree on what Kyrie stated on her comment that we should respect their law even though we have the same citizenship. And "no" because in the first place, why did these 3 involve their selves to an illegal activity. They went to China and they for sure know that they are very strict in implementing their rules.
According to the news that I've read, it was a crime last 2008. And it stated there that they were just "duped and coerced". For that span of time, why didn't the government act immediately to prove the innocence of these three OFWs? It was until now that they are appealing when the case is at the critical stage. The same as through with the family of the criminals. They should visit them earlier this year because they know the consequences they will be facing or ask the government for help earlier too.
Whether the Chinese are implementing their law or just doing it to revenge, the fault is in the person who committed the crime. We should respect their decisions and accept it.

I think the government should not interfere in this case because What's the use of the law if they don't implement it. And the 3 person must accept their punishments because they know that this doing is against the law.
If they will help the 3 Filipinos we might abuse the government.
We must respect their laws because if we will not respect it they might not also respect our Laws.

For me, our government must not interfere with the execution the Chinese government gave to the Filipino drug pushers because that's their law. If our government interferes with it, Chinese people might also do it in our country.

  12. The government should interfere in this matter even though these OFWs knew they were trafficking drugs. The government should at least show their support because if the Department of Foreign Affairs won't move the public would blame them for not doing anything at all as the elected officials. Rotting in prison is better than being blown to pieces because this way you can still have a chance to be free.

  13. The government should not interfere on that case because the Filipinos knew what they are doing, they knew that they were doing illegal things that can put them to jail. Instead if they were victims, that's when the Government should really interfere.
We should respect China's laws and let them handle and implement their laws because what is the use of those laws if they are not implemented.
It's their fault and they must pay for what they have done no matter what the consequences are.

  14. The Government of the Philippines should interfere in this situation in my opinion because the prisoners are our fellow countrymen.
By interfering the Government show their support to every citizen of it's state.I agree to the terms of life imprisonment instead of death sentence because the punishment is very brutal and in the Bible it says that ''Thou shall not kill''.

  15. In my opinion the Government of the Philippines should iterfere the situation.Because the people who are involoved in this case were filipino citizens. The Philippine Government have responsible in keeping the filipino citizens safe. Although we respect their laws, the government should atleast try to lower the punishment because the Filipino OFW's are not the ones who are responsible for this act, they are just victims of the Drug Sidicates.

  17. In my opinion the government must interfere in this case.they must show their support to their countrymen.because this OFW's might be a victim of syndicates that use them to transfer drugs to other countries and this OFW's might not informed that they are only used. And they must also interfere in this case what ever the OFWs did wrong because its their obligation to proect people . But they must not interfere to those who are abusive.

in my opinion i think the government should not interfere, because the people are criminals. They should be punished by law. They are not victims that need to be saved. And because they have done it in a different country, the government should respect the decision of that country.

In my opinion the government should interfere in the execution of Filipinos in China. Drug trafficking is a very serous crime. Can we solve this through death penalty? Even though we sentenced them into death, will the drug trafficking stop? Poverty is the one that pushes many Filipinos to be engaged in illegal activities. If our own government will solve the problems of poverty then there will be no activities like this. Death penalty is a harsh punishment. The China Government can do other punishment. Life is sacred and we should give opportunity to people who made mistakes to change, to start a new life

  20. In my opinion, the Philippine government should not interfere. The three Filipinos know what they had done in the first place. What they did is illegal so they should pay for it.
In the first place they should have think first before involving themselves in drug-trafficking.They are criminals not victims.
If our government will interfere, it will appear that we are not respecting the decision of the government of China. The relationship between our countries would be surely destroy.
We should respect the law of the Chinese government. Those three Filipinos in China knows the rules of that country yet they did it just for money.
Our government should not be involve.

  21. Yes because those 3 OFW's are still Filipino citizens. They are still under the Philippine government so it is still our responsibility to help them whatever happens. Besides' is life valueless?

  22. In addition to my comment, our government should interfere because as mentioned it's duty is mainly on protecting the welfare of the Filipino citizen.

Besides, life imprisonment is far much better than death penalty. These 3 OFW's are still our countrymen so we should help them whatever it takes.

  23. NO.The Philippine Government should not interfere because the 3OFW'S know that this action is sin/not allowed in the law yet they are doing it.If the Philippine Government help them and the Chinese let them set free, When the 3OFW will come to our place, may be, they'll do it again because they recognized that the Philippine government helped them from their action in China so if they do it again here in our place, they think that the Government just only warn them.
Surely,They will be the one who will suffer the consequences of there action.
So, We people,We must think well first our action before we'll do it..
